Rudy has never seen a D'Angelico like this one. Built with a 17" body typically seen on Excel models, paired with a large headstock adorned with New Yorker-style inlays. D'Angelico's apprentice, Jimmy D'Aquisto, told Rudy once that his teacher didn't like to mix the styles of his various models, so this is an uncharacteristic build which makes for a wonderfully rare model. In D'Angelico's ledger (as seen in the book Acquired of the Angels by Paul Schmidt) he listed this guitar as: "Excel, New Yorker Trim, Special Import". On April 9, 1958, D'Angelico sold the guitar for a 2nd time (perhaps consigned by the original owner) to Mr. Frank Zacchino, who owned the guitar and played it professionally for many years until his retirement. Mr. Zacchino was the owner of the guitar until his death, at which point his family continued to take care of the instrument until now. The guitar is in excellent condition with one small repair on the center seam. Equipped with its original DeArmond Rhythm Chief RC1000 floating pickup. Original tailpiece with 2nd/previous owner's name engraved. Reproduction pickguard with repaired crack. Gorgeous flame on the back and sides.

The original bill of sale for Mr. Zacchino's purchase is included with the guitar (see photo). On this bill, D'Angelico referred to the guitar as a "Super Model", being a blend of some of his most iconic existing models.
