This year, Bourgeois was able to secure an extremely limited supply of old-growth sinker Sitka Spruce—in total, 18 tops—just enough to make three Limited Edition runs of six. Commonly referred to as Blue Sinker, this rare Spruce was salvaged from 100-year-old structures originally used to corral and trap salmon. A century of submergence under brackish waters imparted unique resonant characteristics and a distinctive bluish hue to this remarkable tonewood.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e#6 in a limited run six total guitars, this D Custom Large Soundhole was made with a Blue Sinker top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Because of Clarence White's legendary D-28—which was made famous by Tony Rice—players and builders have long been fascinated by the large soundhole concept. The larger hole raises the guitar's natural frequency, enhancing treble and mid range content to balance out the bass. It also adds more resonance and sustain, and the guitar throws sound at a different angle, making the tone easier for the player to hear. On the inside, this D Custom was made with Double Scalloped \"Banjo Killer\" Bracing, cut from Torrefied Adirondack Spruce. The overall is result is a bold, powerful dreadnought that jumps across the room, but doesn't lack subtlety and sweetness when you play with a lighter touch.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor a Limited Edition model, the appointments on this D Custom are relatively understated, allowing the beauty of fine tonewoods to shine through.
