For the sixth one, we wanted to hear what our favorite maple Taylor sounded like with aged tonewood so we asked Andey Powers and his crew to make us a Builder’s Edition 614ce. \r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eAlong with the Andy’s V-Class bracing, this guitar boasts a beveled armrest, beveled body edge treatment, and a reshaped cutaway that flows smoothly into the heel and incorporates a finger bevel where the cutaway meets the soundboard. (This just might be our favorite acoustic guitar cutaway ever.) Other refinements include “silent” satin finish, which helps quiet the incidental noise against the guitar body. The top is torrefied Sitka spruce and the back and sides are maple, a combo that produces a sweet, mellow tone that responds to the lightest touch but holds up under the most robust strumming. We think Taylor did a wonderful job on this guitar and we’re very happy they made it for us. Or did they make it for you? Come on in and see. \r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eAbout Gryphon’s Aged Maple: \r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eThe back and sides were milled from big slabs of figured maple Gryphon's co-founders bought fifty years ago when they were making a lot of banjo necks. This was before the retail store was opened, and once that happened repairs and restoration quickly put most building projects on the back burner, where they stayed as demand for repairs changed Gryphon's direction.
