Gibson’s F-5G has been a staple in the company’s lineup since the late ’80s, offering a more stripped-down take on the iconic F-5. Most of the specs are shared with the equivalent-year F-5 Master Model, just with more understated ornamentation.
This example, from 1994, features a bound spruce top, maple back and sides, and “The Gibson” logo and flowerpot inlaid on the headstock. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is done in a nice reddish burst that really suits the instrument. Structurally, this mandolin is solid with no cracks, repairs, or other issues. There is some light finish wear, but it is all surface-level cosmetic wear. The frets still have plenty of life left in them as well. There are some light fret divots on the treble side up through about the 5th fret, but they are not noticeable while playing. This one comes with a hardshell case.
