This is one of the best playing D'Angelico guitars that we have in the shop. John D'Angelico reserved Style A and Style B for his more "entry level" guitars price-wise. This Style B from 1939 is slightly more ornate than others with 7-ply binding on the body and ample Mother of Pearl inlays on the headstock. It also has a brass "finial", just like the Excel model.
No major repairs are evident, and there are no cracks whatsoever. The guitar might have had a little overspray at some point, but that's very common with vintage D'Angelicos. The pickguard is not the original one; those typically off-gas and crumble. This one was clearly custom-made and is beautiful. The bridge and tailpiece are original, as are the machine heads. The back of the guitar has a more subtle flame than the pricier models, but it is just as lovely. Excellent condition overall, gorgeous tone. We even love it for Beatles songs and other songwriter tunes; D'Angelicos aren't just for jazz!
