Gibson 1958 Les Paul Reissue VOS Lemon Burst, 2020 [USED]

This Gibson 1958 Les Paul Reissue VOS Lemon Burst was built during 2020 at the Nashville Custom Shop and is in very good, clean condition with minimal wear. 

As a 1958 VOS model, this guitar aims to look and sound like a vintage guitar, but without the inevitable damage and wear from real-world use.  Fret and finish wear are very light, mostly as a small amount of jean rivet wear on the back.  

The original brown case with pink lining is included.  It contains the COA and some paperwork plus the case keys and Gibson Custom metal switch cavity cover. 

Construction and Materials

This lovely Gibson 1958 Les Paul Reissue VOS Lemon Burst closely follows the pattern of the early humbucking Les Paul Sunburst models.   

The Maple tops are fairly plain, and the solid Mahogany backs are not weight relieved but are chosen for light weight - this guitar is just over 8 pounds!   The fuller C profile neck is Mahogany with a bound, Indian Rosewood fingerboard, and a dyed-black Holly head plate. 

The VOS finish applies to both the nitrocellulose lacquer and the metal hardware, replicating fade and light oxidization.   The Lemon Burst top is intended to suggest a heavy fading due to time and light.  It's subtle and attractive.  

The hardware starts with a set of single-line Gibson Deluxe tuners with press-fit bushings and plastic Keystone buttons.  The bridge is a no-wire ABR-1, paired with a lightweight aluminum stop bar and currently the strings are top-wrapped.  

The electronics include a set of unpotted Alnico III Custombuckers, intended as Gibson's most accurate PAF reproductions.   The volume and tone controls are CTS 500K audio taper, and the capacitors oil in paper.  Finally, there Switchcraft supplied the pickup selector and output jack. 

From its earliest days until the mid 1970's, the Gibson Les Paul used a long-tenon neck joint, with the tenon extending into the neck pickup cavity.  The shift to the 'short' tenon allowed for faster production, particularly in setting the neck angle.  Non Custom-Shop models used a short tenon from 1986 to 2006, and then shifted back to a longer tenon.
