The late 1920s through the mid 1930s is considered the golden era of the modern banjo. Most modern resonator banjos rely heavily on the banjo technology and developments from this era. This 1927 Granada is a beautiful example of the fine work of this period. Originally a tenor four-string and like many tenor banjos it was converted by installing a 5-string neck.
The 5-string neck was made by C. C. Richelieu in 1984. The neck is finely crafted and inlayed with proper Granada pattern. Some original correspondence along with the 5-string neck receipt are included with the sale. The original 4 string neck with gold tuners and engraved Granada tailpiece are in beautiful condition and are also included with the banjo. The 40 hole archtop tone ring remains in excellent condition.
The frosted gold metal parts are in excellent condition other than a scratched and worn arm rest. It is obvious that all work in converting this banjo was carefully and professionally done. The banjo has been professionally set up and is ready to be played. There are no other modifications or alterations. The banjo is cased in a beautiful, period correct Plectrum banjo case. There is of course no bump out for the 5th string tuner but the banjo fits nicely. We would be glad to trade it out for a modern 5-string case if a buyer would prefer.
