Here is a 1997 Gibson L-4 CES in Cherry with gold hardware, a refined electric archtop developed as Gibson’s response to the evolving needs of working jazz musicians seeking warmth, clarity, and comfort in a more manageable format than the larger L-5. Combining a slightly smaller body with carved top construction and electric pickups, the L-4 CES strikes a balance between traditional acoustic character and modern amplified performance.
This example delivers a rich, rounded tone with excellent note separation and dynamic response, making it particularly well suited to both traditional and contemporary jazz styles. Strung with flatwound strings, it offers a smooth, controlled feel and a warm, focused voice straight out of the case, with strong fundamentals and clear articulation across the fingerboard.
The neck profile is comfortable and easy to navigate, allowing for relaxed chord work and fluid lead playing, while the fully hollow construction provides a lively and responsive acoustic presence even before amplification.
Condition is excellent with only minor signs of player wear, and the guitar presents cleanly throughout as a well-maintained example. Comes with its original Gibson hard shell case.
