Gibson Les Paul R9 Cherry Sunburst, 2006 [USED]

This very good, original condition Gibson Les Paul R9 Cherry Sunburst dates to 2006 and has a beautifully figured, bookmatched flame maple top.

Wear to this instrument is very light though there is one small and well done touchup on the top.  It plays well, is comfortable, and the combination of cherry sunburst and flamed maple is really attractive. 

The original black arched top Gibson Custom hard shell case is included and contains the Certificate of Authenticity and the bags of case candy. 

Construction and Materials 

The goal of the Gibson Les Paul R9 was to accurately reproduce the specifications of the 1959 model year.   To that end, the similarities far outweigh the differences.  The body is built with a single piece of Mahogany with a carved book-matched flame Maple top and routed for a long-tenon neck joint.  The neck is also Mahogany, with a Rosewood fingerboard, and that's where one of the few material differences appear - it's Indian Rosewood, not Brazilian.   The headplate is a thin layer of dyed Holly, with a Mother of Pearl Gibson logo and gold silkscreened Les Paul Model logo. 

Hardware follows the traditional style Gibson Deluxe tuners with plastic Keystone buttons, an ABR-1 bridge with wire saddle retainer, and a lightweight stop tailpiece.  The bridge, tailpiece and pickup covers have a VOS aging treatment.  

For electronics, as a 2006 model, the pickups are a mix of unpotted Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) with Alnico II magnets and VOS aged covers, with 50's style wiring. 

2006 also introduced the use of PLEK machines on the frets and nuts for the R9.
