Gibson RB-800 5-String Resonator Banjo Cherry Burst, 1981 [USED]

The Gibson RB-800 5-string resonator banjo was the top of the MasterTone line, and this one was built during April 1981 in Kalamazoo Michigan. Introduced in 1964 and produced until 1986, the RB-800 sported gold plating and a Cherry sunburst finish on a Maple rim and neck with Ebony fingerboard and Mother of Pearl inlays. 

A modern brown Gibson branded hard shell case is included, containing strings and a capo.

Construction and Materials

The 1981 Gibson RB-800 5-string resonator banjo uses a three-piece laminated curly Maple neck with a bound Ebony 22-fret fingerboard, Mother of Pearl Wreath inlay set, 11-ply, 3/4 inch Maple rim, Maple resonator, Bell Brass tone ring, Brass Flange and tension brackets, two co-ordinator rods, Gibson Mastertone tuners with geared 5th string peg, arm rest and Mastertone 'Eagle Claw' tailpiece.  All the metal hardware is gold-plated. The current clear head is by Deering, and provides a nice look at the internal sunburst finish.  

Condition

Carrying a serial number dating to April 14, 1981 at Kalamazoo Michigan, this Gibson RB-800 5-string banjo is in very good, clean condition throughout.  Fret and finish wear are minimal.  The included newer Gibson hard shell case is in similarly good condition.
