The Gilet BMG (Blue Mountains Guitar) is a custom acoustic built by Gerard Gilet for a professional working musician, and it carries both the refinement of a master luthier and the quiet confidence of an instrument that has earned its place on stage and in the studio.

Hand-crafted around a decade ago, this guitar has been used extensively on recordings and performances, including sessions for Doc Neeson (The Angels), Kutcha Edwards and Archie Roach, as well as projects with Dead Marines, Bernie Hayes and Paddy McHugh. It has featured on multiple solo albums and has seen live use in Europe with Magnolia Orchestra, and in Australia alongside Dave Mason (The Reels), Buried Country, Karma County, LJ Hill and others. This is very much a guitar with a story, shaped by real-world use at a professional level.

Construction pairs a Sitka spruce top with Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides, matched to a mahogany neck. The Medium Jumbo body shape is Gerard Gilet’s own Blue Mountains Guitar design, developed to incorporate modern falcate bracing. The result is an instrument that is notably loud, punchy and dynamic, with excellent headroom and a fast, responsive feel that suits contemporary fingerstyle playing particularly well. Notes speak easily, with strong fundamental clarity and a rich overtone content that rewards a nuanced right hand.

Finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, the guitar has a natural, organic feel and a resonance that reflects both the quality of the materials and the care taken in its construction. It balances beautifully, feels alive in the hands, and delivers the kind of immediacy and projection that makes it a reliable tool for recording and performance alike.

Gerard Gilet is widely regarded as one of Australia’s most celebrated acoustic builders, known for his precision, innovation and deep understanding of how a guitar should respond to a player. His instruments are sought after for their musicality rather than flash, and this BMG is a perfect example of that philosophy in practice.

A rare opportunity to own a professional-grade Australian-built acoustic with genuine provenance, exceptional tone and the unmistakable touch of a master luthier.

Comes in HSC that has seen better days, but still functioning.
