Halvi 000 BR 12-Fret Brazilian Rosewood Steel String Guitar by Rick Halverson, 2016 [USED]

For players seeking the absolute zenith of traditional acoustic guitar design, this 2016 Halvi 000 BR stands as a monumental testament to serious craftsmanship.

Rick Halverson builds independently in or near Gatineau, Quebec, near Ottawa.  While he has little in the line of a digital footprint or online presence, his work is known and respected.   

This impressive Halvi 000 BR has a number of features besides its extensive use of Brazilian Rosewood. The back itself is spectacular section with a ribbon of heartwood down the center in contrast to the other deep browns.   

The scale length is 642mm or 25.27 inches on a traditional 12-fret neck, and the nut and saddle are custom carved for intonation compensation.  The carving is quite impressive and demonstrates a dedication to instrument construction.   The guitar is in good condition with light wear to the finish and frets, and the finish is still quite glossy.

Halvi 000 BR 12-Fret Brazilian Construction and Materials

Rick Halverson's Halvi 000 BR uses the well established Martin style construction pattern.  The body is assembled pairing Mahogany body blocks and kerfed Maple linings to the Brazilian Rosewood sides, the back is added, then the Adirondack Spruce top with its Maple bridge plate.  The top and back are trimmed to size, binding ledges cut, herringbone purfling and bindings installed.  

The Mahogany neck, with its slotted peghead and Maple bound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, is added after the body and neck are finished (Martin uses this sequence, Gibson fits the necks first then finishes).  The dovetails are cut to fit and the bridge is added.   Ultimately, with the dovetail settled and the bridge in place, the Waverly open-gear tuners are added.
