This 2012 Hilburn Octave mandolin is a beautiful example of a small shop instrument, made in Louisville, Co. Featuring a carved spruce top over carved flame maple back and sides, this instrument takes it's cues from the classic vintage archtop guitars and channels that into a lovely octave mandolin build. The low-end is tight and focused and makes for an excellent rhythm player or delivers a great open, drone-like sound. The upper register is punchy and articulate and delivers a nice counterpoint to the deeper octave sound.
There is minor finish wear/playwear to the top, most notably on the upper treble bout. There is minor finish checking to the upper bout treble side, along with minor finish checks to the center seam on the top and back. The are also minor finish scratches on the back, near the upper and lower bouts on the bass side. But overall in excellent condition. Includes the original, custom-fit hardshell case.
