Introducing the stunning Ibanez Joe Satriani Black Dog JS BDG, alimited production run consisting of only 88 guitars worldwide, with 50 allocated to the USA.
Blackdog was the very first prototype JS guitar that Joe Satriani decorated with coloured metallic Sharpie markers as inspiration struck him. This guitar gained iconic status when a picture of the freshly adorned guitar was featured on the back cover of "Flying in a Blue Dream," making it a favourite among long-time Satriani fans. A Japanese artist faithfully recreated this tribute, even using the original 4" x 5" negatives from the original photographer to ensure accurate and detailed enlargements for the artwork. The graphic is protected under a clear coat to prevent wear, although the doodles on the pickups, mounting rings, bar, fine tuners, and knobs are not. Ibanez meticulously replicated the original specifications, including the knob arrangement, Silver Silk headstock logo, pearl dots, straight jack, and black plastic pickup mounting rings.
The Blackdogs are crafted by a small custom shop in Nagoya, contracted by Ibanez to produce high-quality instruments. These guitars feature fret finishing akin to the best J Customs and are free of contour blemishes often found on Fujigen production JS models. Weighing around 6.9lb, they likely utilise premium American basswood, known for its lighter weight. Each guitar comes with a special Y2K case similar to those used for non-US Crystal Planet guitars, a certificate signed and encased in Lucite, and a black leather JS strap. All Blackdogs have signed control covers, adding to their unique appeal (this one is in the case).
This guitar is in excellent condition, showing zero signs of use, if any. It looks as though it hasn't been played at all and has been well-maintained and cared for throughout its life. The instrument comes complete with all original documentation, including the Certificate of Authenticity (COA), ensuring its provenance and authenticity.
