This 1953 Martin D-28 is a gorgeous example of the fabled "mystery top" era Martin guitars. As evidenced by the Made in USA stamp on the back of the headstock, this D-28 started its life at a Canadian dealer. The back and sides feature a fabulous set of Brazilian rosewood, and the mystery top in question has been verified to be Adirondack spruce. Loads of headroom, and warm Brazilian rosewood low-end make this a fantastic flatpicker that stands out at any jam.
There is a very fine pickguard/E string crack along with a 3" fine line finish crack behind the bridge. Cautionary, tiny cleats have been installed under each. Original bridge, original bridge plate, original waffle-back tuners. Exceptionally clean and well-preserved piece of Martin history. Includes modern hardshell case.
