This vintage 1955 Martin D-28 is a really great example of a mid-'50s Brazilian Rosewood with the quarter-sawn wood we all dream about. This is in Very Good condition - the guitar is crack-free, with the original finish. The Sitka Spruce top is a very dark and tight grained, with one very minor (and typical) pickguard shrinkage crack under the high E string. There are minor nicks, scratches and weather checks, to be expected with something of this age. The bridge is a nicely made, slightly oversized replacement with a drop in saddle, and the two visible pearl dots are tiny non-original bolts (see bridge photo). The installation was very neat and clean, and did not hit the X braces.
The neck angle is very good here and the frets are freshly dressed. There is a name ink-stamped on the back of the peg head, most likely a previous owner. Most importantly, this D-28 has an exceptionally good sound and matching playability. This 1955 Martin D-28 guitar was obviously owned by someone who played it and always took care of it. Original hard case included. Serial #142189.
