This used Martin D-28 was a well-deserved repair project. Beneath a thick layer of smoke and grime was an incredible guitar, and now it looks absolutely great. The neck has been professionally reset, and the fingerboard was re-fretted - and, fortunately, it was not planed thin and remains a nice factory dimension. The nut has also been replaced. While the original bridge was cracked and shaved thin, a new, exact-sized and -shaped Ebony bridge with a bone cut-through saddle was installed in its place. Likewise, the bridge plate is an exact replacement.
This dread has seen plenty of wear over its nearly 60 years of life: a center seam top crack is present, but it's been glued and cleated; a 4" back crack near the center seam at the lower bout has been repaired and glued; and moisture-related finish chipping at the lower bout is visible, but limited to the finish (the wood is not affected). All of the restorations were completed professionally and with hide glue.
This guitar was obviously used a lot, though definitely not abused - and now it's ready for a second life. It plays and sound great, while being incredibly quick and responsive regardless of playing fingerstyle or flatpicking. The tuners are original, as are the tortoise-inlaid bridge pins. The quarter sawn Brazilian rosewood back and sides are beautiful - the quality of which is to find these days. This Martin D-28 from 1959 has only one previous owner and is now ready to find it's second. Its original (and road-worn) case is also included. Serial# 170775
