Martin Guitars - 1943 D-18 - People often ask for a ”PLAYER” - well here you go! The cosmetics of this guitar can be a bit of a deterrent to some, but when you look and listen beyond the weather checks, nicks and dings, you will find a very solid guitar. The top has a lot of weather checks and finish chipping that are only made more apparent by the furniture polish the guitar was previously wiped with, which darkens these areas.
The top crack from bridge to butt was tightly glued long ago and shows. The pickguard crack under the E string is visible, but solid. There are two minor 2” side cracks and one 3” back crack. All cosmetic and not structural. There is a very minor heal crack that is below the dovetail. Non structural and nicely repaired. The bridge is full height original. The bridge plate is original with a very thin maple string doubler added where string balls had worn the original plate. The neck has been reset, planed and refretted. The inside of the guitar is nice and clean. The scalloped braces are clean and untouched.
This is a guitar that was played and played but not abused. The guitar plays beautifully and sounds great. The only task left is to find a new home for this “Player” - Includes modern hard case.
