The Fender Deluxe Reverb. Possibly the most recorded amplifier of all time. 1967 – the first year of the Fender Silver Face amps. 67 Was a transitional year for the Deluxe Reverb. What appears on the outside to be a Silverface Deluxe amp is essentially still the same Blackface deluxe amplifier on the inside. Over time CBS (the owners of Fender since 1965) began making changes to the circuit up until the amp was discontinued in 1982. There is a term in the Fender world called ‘Blackfacing’ whereby people simplify the circuit of the later Silverface amps to get them back to the earlier Deluxe Reverb specs. This wouldn’t be necessary on an amp such as this one. Identifiers of the early Silver Face amps are the thin black lines that separate the different sections on the amps front control panel.
This amp is in great shape. The black Tolex is largely unmarked, with a few marks around the corners. There is light patina to some of the chrome plated hardware. The control panels and knobs are in very good condition. There are no unusual sounds and all the controls work as they should.
22 Watts of clean, clear, chimey Fender tone is what this amp offers, with plenty of head room to dial in the sweet spot without deafening the band. In an age now where P.As are light, powerful and portable, it is more true than ever that many guitarists really don’t need any more than 22 watts of power to be heard. Lightweight, loud, reliable with that classic vintage Fender sound, there’s no wonder the Deluxe Reverb has been so popular for so many years.
The amp of choice for many of the greatest guitar players - this early Silver Face Fender Deluxe Reverb is at a great price point for a great vintage Fender Amp – having all the good stuff of the earlier 60s Blackface without the price tag.
